Project Description

Looking for Fantastic Fishing? At Highwind Lake Camp we are blessed to be the only one on the chain of lakes! This means fishing opportunities are excellent! There are a number of species that anglers can target through various times and in various depths. From Highwind Lake Camp anglers are able to access a number of lakes including, Highwind Lake, Porcus Lake, Ethelma Lake, and Hillock Lake.

These lakes are all within Ontario’s Fisheries Management Zone 5. Regulations on fishing in these zones can be found in the annual Fisheries Regulation Summary. To purchase a license visit the Ontario’s Fishing webpage. Here is a little bit about each lake.

Highwind Lake

(49.708408, -93.913671)

Highwind Lake is a deep lake with crystal clear waters, reaching depths of over 200ft. The lake is approximately 5km (3.1mi) long with one large island and 5 smaller islands and a large set of cliffs. Highwind Lake hosts a few choice species including Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, and Northern Pike. It is our premier lake being that it is directly accessible from camp and supports excellent fishing for large Lake Trout and Bass. The shores of Highwind Lake are rocky with sand beaches on the shores on a number of the easter and western bays. Bass are common along the shores in spring and through summer. Please review the Regulation summary at the link above for the Trout and Bass season opening dates.

Porcus Lake is accessible through a ~200m portage. At this time it is only canoe accessible but that does not limit the chances at excellent fishing! Pocrus Lake is approximately 4.9km (3.0mi) and reaches depths around 150ft. Like Highwind Lake the lake has a large set of cliffs (not safe to jump from). Hosting maily Lake Trout, the lake is a hidden gem. Located not far from the portage is a beautiful large camping spot.
